Stephen Simpson (No. 99 GAINSCO ORECA LMP2, with co-drivers Misha Goikhberg and Chris Miller) sealed the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen victory for the JDC-Miller Motorsports team in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition Sunday with a brilliant, ballsy pass of Jordan Taylor (No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R) and Juan Pablo Montoya (No. 6 Acura Team Penske ARX-05 DP) on a restart on a near 100-degree day at Watkins Glen International. “I don’t really know what to say,” said Simpson, who put the GAINSCO colors back in victory lane for the first time since a GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race at Circuit of The Americas in 2013. “Setting me up for that restart was the guys in the pits. I mean, we jumped a bunch of cars. I wasn’t sure if we could get there on fuel, but the guys weren’t saying anything to save extra fuel in my car, so I thought, ‘I’m going to go for it.’" Simpson won the race by 1.954 seconds over Romain Dumas (No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA LMP2), who passed Montoya in the final turn of the race to score the runner-up result with co-drivers Jon Bennett and Colin Braun. Montoya and co-driver Dane Cameron combined to lead a race-high 124 of the 202 laps completed over the six hours.

Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller (No. 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT) co-drove to the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen victory Sunday in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GTLM class, finishing 1.592 seconds ahead of the Antonio Garcia/Jan Magnussen (No. 3 Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C7.R). Patrick Pilet/Nick Tandy (No. 911 Porsche GT Team Porsche 911 RSR) finished third.

Max Verstappen (No. 33 Aston Martin Red Bull) won the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday in an unexpected victory on Red Bull's home track. Kimi Raikkonen (No. 7 Scuderia Ferrari) was second and Sebastian Vettel (No. 5 Scuderia Ferrari) was third. Lewis Hamilton (No. 44 Mercedes AMG Petronas) lost the world championship lead after retiring due to a loss of fuel pressure with eight laps to go. Hamilton's retirement puts Vettel into a one-point lead heading into next weekend's British Grand Prix.

Marquez prevailed in an intense, classic race, with Alex Rins (No. 42 Team Suzuki Ecstar) edging out Vinales on the final lap for second place, finishing 2.2 seconds behind Marquez, who now leads the championship by 41 points. Andrea Dovizioso (No. 4 Ducati Team) finished fourth ahead of Rossi, who remains in second in the point standings after the eighth round in the MotoGP championship.

Tyler Cooke and James Clay (No. 82 BimmerWorld Racing BMW 328i) finished second, and Nate Stacy and Kyle Marcelli (No. 60 Roush Performance/KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang) finished third.

Toyota has announced that it will bring a "Supra" to NASCAR in the 2019 Xfinity Series (NXS) in place of the current "Camry." Toyota worked with its subsidiaries, TRD, U.S.A. (Toyota Racing Development) in Costa Mesa, California, and Calty Design Research, Inc. (Calty) in Newport Beach, California, to develop the Supra for NASCAR. Toyota is doing this because the new production Supra is at hand. Expect Toyota to announce that the Supra will run in Cup against the Camaro and Mustang (which debuts in 2019 as well).

On June 24th, Volkswagen made motorsports history at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Watch Romain Dumas in the fully-electric, 671HP I.D. R Pikes Peak set a record time of 7:57.148 minutes, which smashed the previous all-time record set in 2013 by Sébastien Loeb – by 16 seconds. Watch the record run here.
