After 55 laps of ferocious, frantic uncertainty, about the only certain thing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES happened again Sunday at Road America – Alex Palou and his Chip Ganassi Racing crew standing in victory lane. Palou stretched the available fuel in his No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing SOLO Cup Honda at the end to earn his sixth victory in nine starts this season in the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Presented by AMR, becoming the first INDYCAR SERIES driver to take the checkered flag at least six times in a season since Will Power in 2011. “It was a crazy race,” Palou said. “There were moments I thought we were losing a ton of positions. It was a tough race for everybody. Kudos to the team for the amazing strategy and Honda for giving us the fuel mileage we needed at the end to make it.” Three-time series champion Palou expanded his lead to 93 points over Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood with the victory in a race of varying fuel and tire strategies as the season passed its halfway point, with eight races remaining on the 17-race schedule. Marc Marquez emerges from an all-time great battle to take a 93rd win in all classes, ahead of Alex Marquez and a late charge from Di Giannantonio. Mugello often delivers some magic and in 2025, it didn’t fail to deliver more. Some all-time great opening laps saw the three heavyweights at the top of the title race go bar to bar in an epic start to the Brembo Italian GP,  Having to work hard for a 93rd win across all classes but securing it nonetheless and taking Ducati to victory at home, Marc Marquez (No. 93 Ducati Lenovo Team) fended off Alex Marquez (No. 73 BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Francesco Bagnaia (No. 63 Ducati Lenovo Team), while a late burst from Fabio Di Giannantonio (No. 49 Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) saw him pick Pecco’s pocket for P3 on the penultimate lap. Both the heat and the action rose as the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen reached its crescendo, ending with Acura winning the sixth round of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. The drama intensified all the way down to the final minutes of the six-hour race, determined in large part by the amount of available energy the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) cars had on-hand after their last scheduled stops with more than an hour and 10 minutes remaining.

Tom Blomqvist crawled across the line with just over one percent of usable energy remaining aboard his No. 60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian Acura ARX-06 he shared with Colin Braun. Blomqvist inherited the win as the race-leading No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Earl Bamber pitted from the lead on the penultimate lap after a restart following three minutes to go.

It’s Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian’s second win in a row, as the team’s No. 93 car won the previous round at the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic to start the month and was poised for another having won the Motul Pole Award this race. It’s Braun’s 26th IMSA win and Blomqvist' sixth, and the first for both since the 2023 Motul Petit Le Mans.

With more usable energy on hand to attempt to chase, the pair of Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R cars completed the podium in second and third with the No. 40 machine ahead of the No. 10 team car.

In the 12-car Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class, Rolex 24 At Daytona winner Paul Di Resta held off 2024 Watkins Glen overall winner and 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP2 Pro/Am class winner Dane Cameron for the class win by just 0.627 of a second. Di Resta shared the No. 22 United Autosports USA ORECA LMP2 07 with Daniel Goldburg and Rasmus Lindh, with Cameron coming up second in the No. 99 AO Racing ORECA LMP2 07 he shared with PJ Hyett and Jonny Edgar. The No. 04 CrowdStrike by APR ORECA entry completed the podium.

LMP2 and the two GT classes resume for the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on July 13, 2025, with the GTP cars back in action at Road America on Sunday, August 3.

Editor's Note: This is our dearly departed billboard, which we had at Road America for several years. Peter gifted the phrase "America's National Park of Speed" to the track, which now uses it proudly in all of its communications. -WG
