Lewis Hamilton (No. 44 Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport) won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit - his eleventh win of the season - capping a scintillating performance in the 2018 World Championship, which saw him take his fifth title. Hamilton also recorded his eleventh pole position of the year - and 83rd of his career - on Saturday, and he benefited from an early switch to super soft Pirelli tires under a Virtual Safety Car brought out after Kimi Raikkonen (No. 7 Scuderia Ferrari) was forced to retire on lap seven in his final race for Ferrari. After biding his time, Hamilton re-inherited the lead and swept to his 73rd career F1 victory. Sebastian Vettel (No. 5 Scuderia Ferrari) was second, after dispatching Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas (No. 77 Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport) mid-race. Vettel was followed home by Max Verstappen (No. 33 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing) and Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing). Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson (No. 1 Team PSRX Volkswagen Polo R) scored a win in the World RX of South Africa, the final round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy. Kristoffersson set three quickest qualifying times to claim TQ (top qualifier) position in his Volkswagen Polo R on World RX’s second visit to Cape Town’s Killarney International Raceway before winning both semi-final one and the final to secure his record-breaking eleventh win of the season. Mattias Ekstrom (No. 5 Team EKS Audi Sport Audi S1 RX quattro) started on the third row of the grid for the final in his Audi S1 and climbed to second during the race with a strong start, after securing second in the World RX Drivers’ Championship when his team mate Andreas Bakkerud (No. 13 Team EKS Audi Sport Audi S1 RX quattro) retired from the semi-finals. Team Peugeot Total’s Sebastien Loeb (No. 9 Team Peugeot Total Peugeot 208 WRX) completed his third full season in FIA World RX with another podium and finished ahead of teammate Kevin Hansen (No. 71 Team Peugeot Total Red Bull Peugeot 208 WRX) in the final.
