Will Power (No. 12 Team Penske Verizon Chevrolet) won the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 Verizon IndyCar race at at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night. The crash-filled nightmare of a race (Peter has more to say about it in this week's "Fumes" -WG) turned into a night of survival after several cars crashed and even a red flag stoppage occurred at one point. It was the 31st victory in Indy cars for the 36-year-old Australian, tying him with Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy for ninth all time. It was also his second win this season and second at Texas Motor Speedway. "Over the moon to win here," Power said. "My second home and my wife is from here, so we spend a lot of time down here, so just an amazing feeling." Tony Kanaan (No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing NTT Data Honda) finished second after being levied a 20-second stop-and-hold penalty after causing the largest incident of the race. Scott Dixon (No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing NTT Data Honda) retained the Verizon IndyCar Series championship lead despite finishing ninth after being taken out by Takuma Sato on Lap 244. Dixon has 326 points. Simon Pagenaud (No. 1 Team Penske DXC Technology Chevrolet), who finished third in the race, is second with 313 points, Sato is third at 312, Helio Castroneves fourth with 305 and Power fifth at 286. Ryan Blaney (No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford) held off Kevin Harvick (No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Busch Beer Ford) for the final eight laps of Sunday’s Axalta presents the Pocono 400 in an intense battle to claim the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory of his career, and a hugely popular win in the NASCAR garage. Blaney crossed the finish line .139 seconds ahead of Harvick to become the 21st different driver to win for the Wood Brothers and the first since Trevor Bayne took the checkered flag in the 2011 Daytona 500. Blaney, 23, is also the youngest first-time winner since Bayne, who was 20 years old when he took the checkered flag for the Wood Brothers at Daytona. “I think it exceeds the dream a little bit,” Blaney said. “I grew up watching my dad (Dave Blaney) race on this race track, and it’s so cool to get the Wood Brothers in Victory Lane, No. 1, and to do it here at a race track that is really close to Ohio — a home to me — is pretty awesome.” Erik Jones (No. 77 Furniture Row Racing Toyota) finished a career-best third.
