Sebastian Vettel (No. 5 Scuderia Ferrari) is now the leader of the World Championship after winning the Bahrian Grand Prix at the Sakhir Circuit on Sunday, his second win (in three races) of the 2017 season. Lewis Hamilton (No. 44 Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team) finished second, 6.6 seconds behind. It could have and should have been closer, but Hamilton was deservedly penalized for a blocking incident on pit road. Knowing he would have to pit behind Valtteri Bottas, his Mercedes teammate, at the first round of stops, Hamilton crawled down the pit lane, slowing to just 35mph, in a ploy to prevent Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3 Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer RB13) from getting past. The stewards took a dim view of Hamilton’s actions – declaring he drove “unnecessarily slowly and erratically” - and slapped him with a five-second timed penalty. Pole-sitter Botas (No. 77 Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team) finished third.

Sebastian Vettel now leads the World Championship by seven points over Lewis Hamilton. Next up is the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi International Street Circuit on April 30.

Kazuki Nakajima, Anthony Davidson and Sebastein Buemi (No. 8 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid) swept to the overall win in the opening round of the 2017 World Endurance Championship at Silverstone, England. Brendon Hartley, Earl Bamber and Timo Benrhard (No. 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid) finished second, 6.173 seconds behind, in a race punctuated by rain and big moments on the track. Neel Jani, Andre Lotterer and Nick Tandy (No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid) finished third. The Toyotas were clearly the class of the field on a dry track, so the 24 Hours of Le Mans is shaping up to be a monumental battle.

Oliver Jarvis, Thomas Laurent and Ho-Pin Tung (No. 38 Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECA-Gibson) won LMP2 by a comfortable margin.

(Ford Racing)
Harry Tincknell, Andy Priaulx and Pipo Derani (No. 67 Chip Ganassi Racing Team UK Ford GT) won GTE Pro at Silverstone. James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi (No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari) finished second, and Frederic Makowiecki and Richard Lietz (No. 91 Porsche GT Team 911 RSR) came in third.
