Martin Truex Jr. (No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota) passed teammate Denny Hamlin (No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota) and led for just 20 of the 500 laps to win the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday. It was the 29th triumph of his Cup Series career. Truex also became the first repeat winner in the NASCAR Cup Series this season, snapping a streak of seven different winners to start the year. Truex also won earlier this season at Phoenix. Chase Elliott (No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet) finished second, 1.972 seconds behind at the checkered flag. After nine months on the sidelines because of injury, eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez has been passed fit to ride at the upcoming Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal after his latest medical check-up. Repsol Honda Team confirmed the news on Saturday morning, six days before track action begins at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao.

IndyCar veteran and two-time Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya will drive the No. 86 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet in his sixth Indy 500 and first with AMSP. The No. 86 harkens back to McLaren Racing’s historic Indy 500 pole with Peter Revson 50 years ago. Revson’s No. 86 McLaren M16 took the top spot in 1971 with a 178.696 mph four-lap average speed, which was over seven mph faster than the existing qualifying track record at the time. Along with the famous number, Montoya’s car will feature the classic McLaren papaya livery, similar to Revson’s from 1971. “This entry represents the combination of three strong relationships: McLaren and Indianapolis; Juan Pablo and Indianapolis; and McLaren and Juan Pablo, so the number just clicked for all of us,” commented McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown in a press release. “Most of all it will be fantastic for the fans, our partners and our team to see him line up with Pato (O'Ward) and Felix (Rosenqvist) for this global sports spectacle." It will be Montoya’s first time back to The Speedway for the Indy 500 since 2017. Montoya competed with Team Penske for four seasons; he won his second Indy 500 in 2015 and he finished second in the championship. The Colombian driver also won the "500" as a rookie in a one-off effort with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2000, a year after his rookie CART title in 1999. “I’ve really missed this race so I can’t wait to compete in my first Indianapolis 500 since 2017,” Montoya said in a release. “It is extra-special to carry the No. 86 on my Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet, honoring the incredible drive by Peter Revson for the pole for McLaren in 1971. This team is a great mixture of rich history and exciting promise, so it will be a thrill to join them as I compete for my third Indianapolis 500 victory."

ABC Supply is paying tribute to Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr. with a throwback livery on an Indy car to be driven by veteran J.R. Hildebrand. The 33-year-old Hildebrand will drive the No. 1 Dallara-Chevrolet with graphics that pay tribute to A.J.'s No. 1 Bowes Seal Fast Special/Offenhauser with which he won the 1961 Indianapolis 500. “At my age I don’t get excited anymore, but I’m thrilled to see this car painted like my 1961 car,” said the 86-year-old legend who will be fielding four cars for the 105th Indy 500. “That win was so special because it was my dream just to be good enough to make the race. They were all sweet victories but to win that first one where I came from was unbelievable. Having ABC as the sponsor is fantastic. They were awful good to us as our main sponsor for 15 years and they came back for the 50th last year when things were pretty tough. It just shows you what kind of company they are and we’ve been great friends and we’ll remain that way.” Hildebrand, who came within one corner of winning Indianapolis in 2011, has qualified for ten straight "500s" at The Speedway and joins Sebastian Bourdais, Charlie Kimball and Dalton Kellet in the lineup.
