Chevrolet, Team McLaren. Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso will compete in the 2019 Indianapolis 500 in a McLaren Racing entry powered by Chevrolet’s 2.2 liter twin turbocharged, direct injected V6 IndyCar engine. “Chevrolet and McLaren have a storied racing history dating back to the mid-1960s, so it will be special to partner with McLaren at the 2019 Indianapolis 500,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. In 1966, Chevrolet and McLaren partnered in the Can-Am Series, where the teams won over 70 percent of the races over the next seven years – including 23 in a row from 1968-1970. Alonso won F1 championships in 2005 and 2006, and is sixth all-time in the series with 32 victories and 97 podium finishes. With his win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this year, coupled with his win at Monaco in 2006, Alonso became one of only 13 drivers to win two of the three legs of the Triple Crown of Motorsports (Monaco, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500). He would join Graham Hill as the only drivers to complete the sweep with a victory in next year’s Indianapolis 500. The 2019 Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 26.

Lewis Hamilton (No. 44 Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport) won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit - his eleventh win of the season - capping a scintillating performance in the 2018 World Championship, which saw him take his fifth title. Hamilton also recorded his eleventh pole position of the year - and 83rd of his career - on Saturday, and he benefited from an early switch to super soft Pirelli tires under a Virtual Safety Car brought out after Kimi Raikkonen (No. 7 Scuderia Ferrari) was forced to retire on lap seven in his final race for Ferrari. After biding his time, Hamilton re-inherited the lead and swept to his 73rd career F1 victory. Sebastian Vettel (No. 5 Scuderia Ferrari) was second, after dispatching Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas (No. 77 Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport) mid-race. Vettel was followed home by Max Verstappen (No. 33 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing) and Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing). Ricciardo was unable to claim that podium he so dearly wanted in his 100th and final race for Red Bull before he moves to Renault. (FIA World Rallycross)
Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson (No. 1 Team PSRX Volkswagen Polo R) scored a win in the World RX of South Africa, the final round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy. Kristoffersson set three quickest qualifying times to claim TQ (top qualifier) position in his Volkswagen Polo R on World RX’s second visit to Cape Town’s Killarney International Raceway before winning both semi-final one and the final to secure his record-breaking eleventh win of the season. Mattias Ekstrom (No. 5 Team EKS Audi Sport Audi S1 RX quattro) started on the third row of the grid for the final in his Audi S1 and climbed to second during the race with a strong start, after securing second in the World RX Drivers’ Championship when his team mate Andreas Bakkerud (No. 13 Team EKS Audi Sport Audi S1 RX quattro) retired from the semi-finals. Team Peugeot Total’s Sebastien Loeb (No. 9 Team Peugeot Total Peugeot 208 WRX) completed his third full season in FIA World RX with another podium and finished ahead of teammate Kevin Hansen (No. 71 Team Peugeot Total Red Bull Peugeot 208 WRX) in the final.
